Buffalo Check Button Up

This kid is always on the move. I love relaxed basics for kids. Adrian has button ups but I think this may be the first I've actually put him in. There's just that cool factor that comes with a flannel shirt and red buffalo check is making a come back. If I buttoned this up and put a pair of suspenders on him he'd be a little lumber jack. Perhaps another time.
I used a Peek-A-Boo pattern called the Classic Oxford. I liked the detailed instructions and the order she did things was a great idea. Also this pattern goes from 3 months -12 years, never gonna have to buy another button up pattern again! This shirt took longer than Adelle's dresses but that's kind of how it goes for any boys or menswear, mainly because there are almost always more pattern pieces. I have some leftover fabric so I have a shirt in mind for myself.
Lets talk about button holes real quick. My machine sucks at doing them! Tell me I'm not the only one. I'll get 4 good buttonholes and then the next will just suck terribly. I'm not doing anything differently, I just don't get it. I have my eye on a new sewing machine this year, who advertisements say that the buttonholes turn out awesome and all you do is push the button to start the button hole, no speed control to worry about. That sounds like a dream. Any big project buys on your horizon? Any recommendations?
